A Walk in the Woods

It is a beautiful (just perfect actually) weekend in Michigan. The image reminds me of our walks in the woods - while Geocaching quite often.

This gorgeous stamp will be released by Innovative Stamp Creations on Tuesday 9/2 along w/ 3 other stamp sheets. It is so versatile. I posted a card where I stamped and colored with copic markers last week (scroll down to the 2nd card) Today's samples include an Alcohol Ink Polished Stone Background and a monochromatic card. The sentiment is from another sheet that will be released on Tuesday called Maple Tree Paintings.

Inspirational Featured!

NSScloseup_SaK

I was asked to be featured on Inspirational's Blog! Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

How cool is that? The artists are amazing that they feature, check out the samples there. I was blown away.

Here's the link to my card she posted.

Today's Inspiration Challenge were some very interesting hotel rooms, each one a work of art. I chose to use room 309 as my inspiration for today's card.

My card is another sneak peek using a new set to be released by Innovative Stamp Creations called Marvels of Nature II. 3 new stamp sheets and 1 individual stamp will be released on 9/2. I will bring you some of the other images leading up to the release, or scroll through my gallery for more sneak peeks from other sets.

Not simple after all_SaK

Here are the card details: CS is Chocolate Chip, Kraft & Gold DejaView's Attic Collection DP. The frame was created using the dots from Cuttlebugs new with love border folders. The birds, sentiment and flourished swirls background are from Marvels of Nature II. The birds were stamped on Kraft CS using a rock n roll technique with Distress inks in Vintage Photo & Fired Brick inks. They were cut out and heavily sprayed with a pearlized distress mist made by combining Distress Inks, perfect pearls & water. I made 2 misters, 1 with Vintage Photo/Perfect Pearls Gold/Water & Fired Brick/Perfect Pearls Bronze/Water. When dry, I sponged the edges of the birds with Distress Black Soot. The perch is a die from Spellbinders Shapeabilities collection that was cut from brushed gold CS and sponged with black soot ink before removing from the die. (after embossing the detail) The edges were sponged with Distress Walnut Stain and the DP was distressed. I finished it with Taffeta ribbon in Chocolate and kraft and added 2 different sized brads for the birds eyes. Have a great weekend!

p.s. I promise I am working on something other than a bird card. Stay tuned for a 3D project on Tuesday as well as more sneak peeks between now and then.

Colored Pencils & Copic's

CIMG6461

Today's Way's to use it challenge was to use colored pencils.  I already stamped and cut out the birds and embossed the background using the new Bird Call folder.  So, I dusted off the colored pencils and went to work.  I used an aqua painter to blend the colors.  The birds are from a soon to be released set from Innovative Stamp Creations called Marvels of Nature II.  I also dusted off my inkworx art gun to spritz close to cocoa ink on the naturals ivory layer.

Here's another sneak peek of a stamp to be released by Innovative Stamp Creations the week of 9/2 called Walk in the Woods.  This one was stamped in Versafine onyx black and colored with copic markers.  The ribbon is May Arts and the philosophy tag is Tim Holtz.

Sketch & Sneak Peeks

SC191Marvels Beauty_SaK

The images I am using today are from Innovative Stamp Creations new sheet Marvels of Nature II that will be released on 9/2.  I used the small flourished bird, flourish background and sentiment on my sketch card above.  The Baja Breeze layer was cuttlebugged with the Birds & Swirls folder and swiped with Blanco opaque white ink  The scallops are SU! border punch with Inkssentials opaque white gel pen.  The dp was a piece of artists paper out of a Somerset Studios magazine.  I over stamped it in Baja Breeze ink w/ the flourish stamp and sponged the edges with Distress Broken China.  The sentiment, also included in the set was stamped in Distress Brushed Corduroy ink.  The bird was inked w/ Brushed Corduroy and Broken China Distress Inks and I added a white gel pen eye.  The die cut/embossed rod is from Spellbinders Shapeabilities charms & rod set.  It was sponged with Blanco opaque white before removing it from the die.  The baja flourished strip was stamped in Brushed Corduroy and sponged with vintage photo.  Ribbon is Martha Stewart that was lightly heated to curl the ends.

MarvelsISCDT_SaK 001

My 2nd card uses the same set and the sentiment is from ISC Textures & Sentiments set.  I used Bordering Blue, Always Artichoke, Mellow Moss and Black CS.  The scallops were made with circle punches in 3/4" & 1 1/4" diameters. The bird is on dimensional foam tape and has a coat of Glassy Accents on it.  Hope you like my sneak peeks, have a great day!

Make it work Wednesday #10

I can't believe this is already make it work #10! This week, I am going to share how I store my reinkers. I try to purchase the reinker with the pad so that I have them when needed. They are also handy for watercoloring, dying ribbon and other background techniques. I want to be able to find the color I am looking for quickly. This system will take a little time to incorporate initially, but if you do this as you purchase reinkers it will be a very small investment that will save tons of time searching in the long run. My classic reinkers are sorted by color families and color coded by punching 1/4" circles of coordinating CS for the tops of the bottles. From trial & error, I have learned to adhere them to the concave tops using Crystal Effects or Glassy Accents. Tacky glue will harden and not adhere to the plastic for long. Just apply the Crystal Effects in a small drop directly to the cap, turn the bottle over and place over the punched circle like you are stamping an image. All classic inks are stored in my roll top desk. You can see them in the drawers with the cut outs.

CIMG6456

They are organized by color families and the drawers are labeled inside. (of course) Initially, I tried writing the color on the caps w/ a sharpie, but I still couldn't find the color I wanted quickly.

CIMG6457

Less used reinkers such as Stazon, are stored in shallow drawers of a vintage tool box. It also houses cleaning pads in the top, wheels/handles/cartridges and individual stamps.

CIMG6458

The colors I use the most - (Distress inks & Adirondack Pigments) are stored on the top of my SU! color caddy. I don't label these bottles because I can easily see the color through the bottles or see the labels. You may also notice from the caddy, that I don't use it to store SU! classic pads as designed. Anybody interested in purchasing gently used Classic ink pads??????????? To make the caddy work for the pad I use the most, I placed black dominos at the back of the slots. The domino's are placed the long way for the shorter Distress pads and the short way for Adirondacks, Versafine, Encore Metallics & Stazon pads.

CIMG6459

You have seen the system that works for me. Take a couple minutes to organize and find a solution that works for you. Here are the past MIW Wednesdays:

#1 Ribbon & lots more (Clip it Up!)

#2 Cardstock/Scrap Storage

#3 DP & 12 x 12 Storage

#4 Punches & Wood Mounted Stamps

#5 Unmounted Stamp Storage

#6 Embellishment Storage

#7 Cuttlebug Embossing Folders

#8 Die Cut Storage

#9 Spellbinder Magnet Storage

Have a great Wednesday & remember, Make it Work!

My card today features Colorbox fluid chalk pads which happen to be on Sale at Rubbernecker as well as the mini scor-it board. I love this handy board for scoring nice crisp folds.

Here's a couple cards using Rubbernecker images:

The card base was stamped with Wheat Border and Canvas Screen Background. (it really is stamped on the whole base, it just didn't photograph well on the upper portion of the card) Grand maize was inked with chalk inks as well, stamped and masked and then I stamped one more ear of corn w/o reinking the stamp. Chalk inks include: Burnt Sienna, Dk. Moss, Olive Pastel, Dk. Brown & Yellow Ochre. The tag is a Spellbinders Dbl. ended tag that was embossed and sponged with chalk ink before popping it out of the die. The sentiment was inked with a dark brown marker because I only used a portion of the Have a Festive Fall! stamp. The layers were roughed up with an edge distresser and the card is finished with wide organdy in olive and stitched ribbon by May Arts.

THTuesMaizeChalk_SaK

My second card is for today's color challenge and my DH's 50th birthday today!  I didn't want to make the typical black & white over the hill card, so the kraft black and rose red colors worked out perfectly.  I used some of my favorite DP from DejaViews attic collection and images from

Rubbernecker Stamp Co.  The key hole is Lil Davis Designs, numbers are Spare Parts and I believe the key is also Lil Davis Designs.  The ribbon was black & white, so I colored the white using a Copic E33 marker.  Have a great Tuesday!

Happy Birthday Billie!

HappyBirthdayBillie_SaK

This is the card I sent to my on line friend Billie (myboys) for her birthday today.  She shares her special day w/ my husband who is 50 today - YIKES!

Stacy (twinshappy) challenged us to make a card w/ flowers and a blue theme for Billie, so here it is.  I used a soon to be released stamp sheet from Innovative Stamp Creations called harlequin flowers II.  Isn't the frame awesome?  The flowers are also fabulous colored or stamped as a background as shown here.  The sentiment is included in the set.  This and 3 other wickedly cool new sets will be available for purchase after 9/2!

I used Adirondack Pigment inks for the intense rich colors. Snow Cap, Denim & Pitch Black.

Maple Tree Paintings

In honor of one of our big ole maple trees that will be coming down in the next day, I am sharing samples made with a soon to be released stamp sheet from Innovative Stamp Creations  The "new" part of our historic home is 101 years old this year and the trees are visible in a photo that dates back to some time before 1874.  It is a sad day to have to take the tree down, but I guess the alternative of it crashing through the roof is even sadder.  We have tried to no avail to get a tree service to come take it down, but nobody wants to tackle this tree.  The challenge is that it is on top of a big hill and the drive way and road are cut into the hill making the tree harder to access.  My hubby has the week off work and is going to take on the task with a friend who happens to own a bucket truck.  The last time they trimmed the tree, the police actually stopped traffic while they dropped a big limb.  Hopefully they will be willing to stop again this time. I think I need to leave the house for this, getting nervous just putting my thoughts here!

 Good Neighbor_SaK

The first 2 cards were created by coloring the tree stamp with Copic Markers, misting with rubbing alcohol and stamping on Vanilla CS and then Vellum without re-coloring.  There was enough ink to stamp 2 images.  The finished vellum card below, was layered on Scrapperdashery DP.  (the vellum was run through my Xyron using one sided adhesive before affixing it to the DP)  The photo turns were die cut with Spellbinders shapeabilities.  Hinges set.  After embossing them, I sponged the ruby CS with Encore Copper ink before removing the cuts from the die.

Solitude Maple Tree Paintings_SaK 002

Here's a photo of the 2 stamped images I got from coloring the rubber once w/ copics and misting w/ rubbing alcohol.  The vellum was backed with rust CS to photograph it.

Solitude Maple Tree Paintings_SaK 001

This sample uses a new embossing folder called Floral Screen that was swiped with Adirondack pigment white ink.  The Ruby, coral & White layers were cut and embossed with Spellbinders Classic Rectangles sm. & lg.  The dbl. ended tag is also a spellbinders die.

Have a great day, I hope to fit the challenge in if I can get past the distractions here.........

FS81 Girl & Bird

FS81harlequinfloralbirdgirl_SaK 001

Today's Featured Stamper on Splitcoast is Patricia aka kokirose.  I love her style and it took me a while to decide what to case first.  I finally decided on her Dreams card seen HERE

I kept the same layout and color scheme.  Changes include:  Different Fiskars Border Punch, Stamped Frame instead of metal one, stamped tole flowers in place of silk flowers, acrylic resist background instead of designer paper, different stamps and added an embossed/die cut bar to the ribbon strip.  My prima's really match, I just couldn't get the photo to show that without losing other details.

FS81harlequinfloralbirdgirl_SaK 002

All stamps available from Innovative Stamp Creations  The background is called Floral Batik.  The tole flowers and frame are from a soon to be released set called Harlequin Flowers 2.  The girl & bird is vintage clip art from a Niagara Starch advertisement.  The batik background was stamped in brown acrylic paint on rose red cardstock.  I saturated the layer with a mini mister with Red Brick Distress ink/perfect pearls red/water.  The frame is stamped on Kraft with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink.  A 1/38" circle punch was used on the clip art and then I topped it with a clear page pebble.  The tole flowers are from the harlequin flowers 2 set and were stamped using Adirondack pigment in Cranberry and sponged with Distress Vintage Photo.  The smaller tole flowers were die cut with Spellbinders shapeabilities Daisy Heads set (smallest flower) and the bar is also from Spellbinders and is from the Charms & Rod set.

Marimekko Umbrella Inspired

The Inspiration Challenge Splitcoast today is umbrella's by Marimekko.  I chose the pink and black pattern shown here.    It reminded me of the Cuttlebug Leafy Branch folder, so I used a negative embossing technique.  The back or raised portion of the folder was inked with Versafine Onyx Black ink before embossing the white layer. The flower is a Shapeabilities Die by Spellbinders called Daisy Heads.  I die cut the flwers, embossed them and then sponged with black ink before removing from the die.  The same technique was used for the sentiment panel that was cut from Classic Rectangles sm. die.

umbrella IC142 Friendship Umbrella_SaK 002

The sentiment and background flourish are from Rubbernecker Stamp Co.  The sentiment is KK originals and the stylish flourish from the Jeanne Streiff collection.  The ribbon is May Arts.  I raised the main image panel and layered daisy on foam dimensional tape.

CIMG6309

I am busy making samples for an awesome release using Innovative Stamp Creations new sheets.  So for today, I am bringing you something I made a while back and haven't shared yet.  The Places we go journal was made using Teresa Collins chipboard journal covers & Designer Papers, the Bind it All machine, ISC stamps, Tim Holtz accessories and May Arts ribbons.  The dream and tidbits tags were cut using Spellbinders tags trio and dbl. ended tags dies.  The ticket is Tim Holtz stamped with ISC images.  The stamps are from a recently released set called Artsy mini book shapes series.

Stay tuned for samples using 2 new fall sheets and an awesome flourished bird sheet next week!
