Hooray for BLOG CANDY

OK, so it is Treasure Hunt Tuesday and blog candy day already again. It seems like Tuesdays come around really quickly. Here's the deal if you are new to the Treasure Hunt and Rubbernecker Blog Candy. Clicking on the link above will bring you to the Rubbernecker HOME page where the treasure hunt begins. Follow the clues to the treasure (a stamp image) and simply add it to your shopping cart. The treasure is absolutely free with any purchase!

I am also offering Blog Candy this week.
Just leave me a comment on this post telling me what your favorite instrument is and you will be entered into the drawing by Random.org The winner will be announced on my blog Wednesday morning so don't delay. Candy is also offering blog candy today, so swing by her blog and enter there too. If by chance you are lucky enough to be drawn by both of us, you will only be eligible for one Rubbernecker Bucks certificate. (yes, it really has happened)

Now for my card. I needed a special thank you card for the 5th grade orchestra teacher. This is the kids last week and Mrs. Balcer has tirelessly given up her time by teaching the kids before school M-F the entire school year. Mason has decided to switch to the Clarinet in the fall with hopes of moving on to the Saxaphone. That means even more practice on his part, because only the top clarinet players will be given the option. I have not made a triangle card in a very long time, so today was the day. They are very easy to make and are supposedly mailable. I have not mailed one in quite a while, but with the P.O. getting so picky about things that are non machinable, I bet they will charge more for these now. The envelope is really easy to make and I promise to get the template on my blog as soon as I mail it to a friend to scan and make into a file for me. (no scanner here...) The card starts with a 5 1/2" square of CS that is scored from one corner to the other and folded into a triangle. I painted the edges with TH crackle paint, let it dry and then sponged with distress inks. The main image is on an alcohol ink polished stone background that was highlighted with a little extra distress ink and I used a scratch tool to get back to the white core of the glossy paper for highlights. The outside sentiment was created in Microsoft Publisher, printed on computer paper, DTP'd with distress Old Paper ink an placed under a Tim Holtz Fragment. The edges of the fragment were finished with a Zig gold Painty pen. I have attached a supply photo so you can see the images I used as well as some of the other goodies. All stamps are available from Rubbernecker Stamp Co. Don't forget to leave a comment and good luck!

  1. My favorite insturment would have to be either the flute or piccolo... I played both in highschool and college and still pick them up on a whim every now and then.

  9. I love the violin and the fiddle! I know both are very heard to play and you don't see people playing these types of instruments very often anymore. Thanks for the chance to win some candy!

  10. My family owned and operated a music shop for many, many years so I grew up around every instrument known. But if I had to pick one favorite it would be the fiddle -- or happy violin as I describe it. You just can't listen to a good fiddle player and not smile.

  11. Well, I left a comment a few hours ago--but it isn't here so let's go again....

There should be a special (and QUIET) place in Heaven for Fifth Grade Instrumental Music teachers!!!

I love this card! I love how you did the crackle paint on the edges--gonna have to remember that. I really like what you did with the scratch tool, too!

My favorite instrument? Well, I have a soft place in my heart for the oboe (since I played for eight years) and my other fav would have to be the French horn.

  14. Shelly, this is one of the most beautiful cards I have seen! I love the triangle shape. Making highlights by scratching the paper is gorgeous and very creative. Who would have thought to do such a thing?! As far as my favorite instrument...I would have to say guitar, since it is the only instrument I ever learned to play minimally.

  15. What a beautiful card! I love the vintage look of it! You really do amazing work.

Oh and my favorite instrument is the piano. I played clarinet all through school and college and I love it but it's not a great solo instrument like the piano.

  16. This card is fabulous! I love the richness of the colors! I should say my favorite instrument is the bass guitar since my dh played it in a band and that's how we met...but, I really love the saxophone!

  17. My favorite instrument is the violin. I always wanted to play the violin growing up, and finally began taking lessons when I was 28 (I'm now 35). I'm not a professional violinist in anyway, but it sure gives me great pleasure to be able to play this beautiful instrument.
And--it just so happens that a violin is included in your beautiful card! It is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing this with us!!

  19. My ONE favorite instrument??? Are you kidding? Ok - how about a MUSICAL instrument!!! THAT is my favorite as opposed to a medical instrument or navigational instrument or an instrument of torture!!! bwahahahahaha!

Seriously, that is a super hard question for me... I pick trumpet and then oboe and then piano and then voice and then French horn and then guitar and then djembe and then bass and then trap set and then keyboards. I think that covers everything our family plays - oh and clarinet! But I love to hear the harp and the cello.... and a good jazz sax. I also like pan flute! And Renaissance recorders.... and.....
did I tell you your card is amazing!!!???

  22. This is such a perfect card for Mrs. Balcer! She will love this, Shelly. I have played piano since I was 8. I used to play classical piano for ballet classes. So I would have to say the piano is my favorite instrument... although I love the violin. Oh a piano and violin duet is just my all time favorite music in the world!

  23. Love the card, cool shape, love the stamp too!

    Oh boy, blog candy, LOL!!
Hmmm, fave instrument, that's hard, LOL. I'll say guitar, followed by drums then piano!

  24. what a lovely card. You always amaze me :)

Favorite instrument - for me it would have to be the piano. I've tried to learn it but have discovered that some things are better left to others.

  25. Your artwork ROCKS! My favorite instrument is a piano.

  26. this is funny because DS and I were just discussing this today. He has to choose an instrument for lessons in school and was asking which I liked. I took piano lessons for years and love the sound of it. (but secretly always wished my parents would let me learn drums, lol!)

  27. Guitar - electric or acoustic - I love them both.

  28. I think my favorite instrument would havr to be acoustic guitar- especially when my lovely bf plays me a tune or two!
