Here’s another sample using Flower Silhouettes now available from Rubbernecker Stamp Co.  The background was left over from a tutorial I had done a while back, the details of the acrylic resist can be found HERE.  The background was layered on Prism papers (see product list below)  The flower pots were inked with Dew Drop pads combining VersaMagic chalk ink and Brilliance Pearl ink.  I just layered the colors from lightest to darkest pressing the pads directly to the rubber until I got the look I wanted.  The layer was over stamped using Distress Old Paper ink/Screen BG stamp and then the edges were torn and sponged with Distress Milled Lavender & Dusty Concord.  After adhering it to the background layer, I added the grid & ribbon and sewed the together.  The card was finished with the epoxy alphabet.  I hope you like it!

I am so delighted in how this turned out because it is for a very special stamping friend Vicky Gould.

Vicky lost her dear Bill suddenly a few weeks ago and she has been in my thoughts and prayers.  Today

was no exception and as this card took shape, I knew it was perfect for her.  Broni is hosting the Rubbernecker

Blogger Challenge today with an inspiration piece and that is where this card came from.  Dee Ott's Summer Fern:

My finished card measures 4 1/8" x 7 3/8" I started with a large shipping tag, Adirondack Paint Dabber/Stream

and some foliage from some Yarrow in my yard.  After dabbing paint on the foliage, I placed them paint side down

on the tag and brayered over them to apply the paint to the tag.  I removed the foliage and let the paint dry.

Then, pearlized distress mists were sprayed on the tag in various colors in yellow, orange, green, blue & reds.  Some

had perfect pearls added to them and gave the tag some shimmer.  The tag was ironed to dry it and then it was over stamped with

a Fern Background by Rubbernecker Stamp Co. in Adirondack pigment juniper.  The sentiment is also by Rubbernecker in the Stamp

Oasis section called Happy Memories.  It was stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and the edges of the tag were sponged in Distress

Pine Needles.  The card base is Bordering Blue CS that was stamped with the same fern background using the pigment juniper. 

I used Rangers applicator tool/blending foam to add some chalk to the image in sage green to make it pop a little.  The edges of the card

are sponged in Distress Weathered Wood.  The tag was finished with fibers, blue pearl brad and a filigree brad buddy by Making Memories.

Acrylic Resist Tutorial

The inspiration on Splitcoast is Harrilu Tee Shirts.  (I am not sure how I did it, but if you click on the image above it will give you a different view of the ATC)

See the cool 7gypsies ATC carousel?   It was recently acquired while working the rubberstamp show in Chicago w/ Bad Sherry.  Mr. Rubbernecker was kind enough to take us to his Distributer and let us run wild.  Sherry & I have intentions on having an ATC day starting soon to fill our spinner racks, this is my first one.  You can see the 7gpysies transparency and blank card I started with in the photo.  The sentiment and green floral background are images available from Rubbernecker Stamp Co.  I used a blending foam pad on the alcohol ink applicator tool to add Distress Broken China to the ATC, then using an Adirondack sponge dabber in Willow, I stamped the ATC floral background.  When the acrylic paint was dry, the whole atc was misted with a pearlized distress mist using Distress Broken China/Perfect Pearls-pearl/water.  The willow paint resists the distress mist.  Then using another blending foam pad, the edges were sponged with Distress Black Soot to cover the acrylic resist on the black frame.  The transparency was stamped in Stazon opaque white and it is attached to the ATC using a vintage brad and fibers.  I added a gemstone to the center of the brad (affixed with Glossy Accents and added a 7gypsies key.

Distress Acrylic Resist Tutorial

I am back from Chicago and totally beat. Working with Bad Sherry and Meg/Waxyo was a pleasure. Mr. Rubbernecker/Dave is always a delight to be with and Mrs. Rubbernecker/Pat is as well. I got back to Michigan with the Rubbernecker's at about 1 AM this morning. Is it naptime yet? I wanted to create a tutorial of the demo I did at the Rubberstamp Expo before going up for a nap, so here it is. I would call the technique Distress Acrylic Resist. The first sample was created using 2 colors of distress inks, 1 color in an Adirondack Paint Dabber and Stazon Black. Ready?

Here are the supplies you will need:

Using the applicator handle and an Ink Blending Foam pad, work Dried Marigold ink into a shipping tag.

Stamp a bold image in a darker color ink over the inked tag in Aged Mahogany.

Ink a bolder background image that has some open areas with versamark and emboss with clear EP.

Sorry about the blurry photo. Cover the entire tag with a thick coating of Adirondack Espresso acrylic paint.

Wipe off acrylic paint with a soft towel or cloth.

Using the same blending foam inked with dried marigold to "buff" the tag. I have done the top 2/3

of the tag to show you the difference this step makes. The flowers really "pop" with this step.

Stamp some words or other images in black using a solvent based ink on the tag.

Using a new Blending Foam Pad, ink the edges of the tag w/ Stazon Jet Black to frame the tag in.

I love the dimension of the CS vellum leaves and the depth from the acrylic stamped layer with the distress mists and pigment stamping.  After die cutting and embossing the Spellbinders leaves, I sponged them with pigment inks before popping out of the dies.  Then, pearlized distress mists were sprayed on.  The vellum curled up like dried leaves.  After they were dry, I used a paint brush handle to manipulate the final shape of the leaves. 

My tag was created with Pearlized Distress Mists made with Distress reinkers,perfect pearls & water.

I made this for my hubby to put on his desk at work and liked it so much, I made a different version for my own desk.

The backgrounds were created on Kraft CS using a Pearlized Distress Mist/Acrylic Resist technique with encaustic wax finish.

I don't usually show personal photos here, but today I am.  The 3 sides of the frame have photos of  Marissa 15, Alex 13 Oct. 13 (Friday the 13th baby)

and Mason 11 1/2.  (can't forget the 1/2 at that age ya know)

Each front panel (Kraft CS) and back panels (heavy weight cereal box cardboard) were cut to 3 1/2" x 5" and then I measured across the top and marked the middle at 1 3/4" and then down each side 2" and cut at diagonals to create the tag shape.

Wanna see my new toy?  It all started when I bought a Collage Discovery Workshop book by Claudine Hellmuth.  She uses so many neat mediums on her creations.  One thing I experimented with on the frames above is encaustic wax.  After finishing my projects by heating a metal painters palette with my heat gun and melting crayons on it before smearing it on my project I knew I needed a quilters iron.  Good thing Hobby Lobby has a 40% off coupon this week!  The iron comes with a standard tip, but you can purchase additional sizes.  It has variable heat settings and gets nice and hot!  Off to experiment with it some more.

 

FS81 Girl & Bird

Today's Featured Stamper on Splitcoast is Patricia aka kokirose.  I love her style and it took me a while to decide what to case first.  I finally decided on her Dreams card seen HERE

I kept the same layout and color scheme.  Changes include:  Different Fiskars Border Punch, Stamped Frame instead of metal one, stamped tole flowers in place of silk flowers, acrylic resist background instead of designer paper, different stamps and added an embossed/die cut bar to the ribbon strip.  My prima's really match, I just couldn't get the photo to show that without losing other details.

All stamps available from Innovative Stamp Creations  The background is called Floral Batik.  The tole flowers and frame are from a soon to be released set called Harlequin Flowers 2.  The girl & bird is vintage clip art from a Niagara Starch advertisement.  The batik background was stamped in brown acrylic paint on rose red cardstock.  I saturated the layer with a mini mister with Red Brick Distress ink/perfect pearls red/water.  The frame is stamped on Kraft with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink.  A 1/38" circle punch was used on the clip art and then I topped it with a clear page pebble.  The tole flowers are from the harlequin flowers 2 set and were stamped using Adirondack pigment in Cranberry and sponged with Distress Vintage Photo.  The smaller tole flowers were die cut with Spellbinders shapeabilities Daisy Heads set (smallest flower) and the bar is also from Spellbinders and is from the Charms & Rod set.

Now for the card: Images are all available from Rubbernecker Stamp Co. I used a Pearlized Distress mist to create the acrylic resist. Colors include, Tea Dye ink/blush perfect pearls, Red Brick ink/red perfect pearls & Scattered Straw ink/bronze perfect pearls. After stamping the angel boy, I lightly highlighted him with copic markers and some Sakura Stardust gel pen. The wings are Tim Holtz grungeboard that was painted with Frayed Burlap crackle paint. They were sponged with tea dye distress ink and black soot. Clock faces, brads and the dymo label were added to finish it off. Hope you like it as much as I do!

My 2nd card is for CC180, the color challenge at Splitcoast today. Yummy colors - Blush, Ruby, Cocoa. I only used Blush and Cocoa CS. The red layer is actually cocoa CS that was embossed with the baroque background (a fave of mine) using Tattered Rose Distress EP. The red tone comes from the Pearlized Shimmer Distress mist made by combining a dropper full of Fired Brick Distress Reinker, a little Red Perfect Pearls and water. The Blush layer was inked with Tattered Rose Distress ink, rock n rolled in Fired Brick, misted with water and stamped. I sponged the edges with Walnut Stain distress ink and also stamped the sentiment with it. The photo corners are from Spellbinders Hdw. & Hinges Shapeabilities set.

SC189 Asian Birthday

I love wide open spaces to showcase techniques and larger stamps, so today's sketch was perfect for these Innovative Stamp Creations images.  This is a Tim Holtz technique called Acrylic Resist I believe.  I started with vanilla cardstock and stamped the asian symbol background in white acrylic paint.  When dry, I spritzed with a mixture of distress reinkers/water/perfect pearls.  Here's the colors I used:  Faded Jeans/pearl pp's, Tea Dye/pearl, Shabby Shutters with a couple drops of Pine Needles/pearl.  I am too impatient for the saturated paper to dry, so ironing is a quick alternative.  The main image was stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and highlighted with copic markers.  The cool ribbon fasteners are by 7gypsies, aren't they neato?  The edges of the main image panel were scraped with an old toothbrush loaded with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink.  Hope you like it, have a great Wednesday!
