CC186 Happiness & Love

Today's colors were perfect as my goal was to make an anniversary card for my Husband. Our 25th wedding anniversary is tomorrow October 1st. I didn't want to make a super frilly vintage card, so this is where I ended up. The diamonds in the rough embossed layer is Core'dinations Vintage collection (man I love this CS!) I sanded it after embossing and then used an Adriondack sponge dabber in Stream to highlight some areas. A baby wipe was used to remove most of the actual turquoise color, leaving some shaded distressed ares. The main image panel was made by stamping the Framed Heart in Distress Walnut Stain on Baja Breeze CS. Then word diamonds bg was stamped in versamark and embossed in clear over the top. Adirondack paint dabbers (Stream, Mushroom, Espresso) were heavily applied over the embossed image and wiped off. I used blending foam and the alcohol ink applicator handle w/ Baja Breeze ink to "buff" the layer and bring back the sheen. The heart was colored with a Copic Marker E09 Burnt Sienna to make it stand out. The sentiment is a rub on. The image layer is attached to chocolate cardstock and the layered on foam dimensional tape before adding the Baja Breeze layer underneath. The brown/blue variegated organdy is May Arts and the Trinket pin (which says treasure) is Tim Holtz. One of my new favorite finds is Zip Dry glue. I purchased it from Scor-Pal and this stuff is wonderful for paper crafting. I attached my ribbons with it and also adhered the brown layer to the baja layer with it. It is especially handy when you have ribbon that is tucked between layers. Holds tight and lays very flat. Anyway, stamps and Paint Dabbers are available from Rubbernecker Stamp Co. TLC188 Celebrate Batik

I made my batik challenge card a little differently today.  Rather than embossing the image in clear and applying inks and ironing, I stamped the Batik Flower background in Blanco opaque white ink which doubles as a resist ink.  Distress inks were swiped on a craft sheet and misted with water and the cardstock was layed in the various puddles of distress/water and ironing before adding color from another area of the sheet.  I used Distress Tattered Rose, Tea Dye & Dusty Concord.  The edges were sponged in Tea Dye ink.  The sentiment and motif layers were stamped on the same batik paper.  My card is also for FS86 which featured Terrore3 yesterday.  The card I cased can be seen Here  The challenge requires us to case a card changing at least 2 elements.  I changed it from a monochromatice card, used different stamps and velvet ribbon replaced the stamped strip.  I also eliminated a small rectangle layer with the velvet knot and silver heart charm.  The stamps used are all from Innovative Stamp Creations Batik Flowers background, Motif/Artsy Victorian & Sentiment from Flair of Summer.  The CS is retired Vintage Violet and US White.

I love the dimension of the CS vellum leaves and the depth from the acrylic stamped layer with the distress mists and pigment stamping.  After die cutting and embossing the Spellbinders leaves, I sponged them with pigment inks before popping out of the dies.  Then, pearlized distress mists were sprayed on.  The vellum curled up like dried leaves.  After they were dry, I used a paint brush handle to manipulate the final shape of the leaves. 

My tag was created with Pearlized Distress Mists made with Distress reinkers,perfect pearls & water.

Here's a couple projects using Rubbernecker images. 

I made this for my hubby to put on his desk at work and liked it so much, I made a different version for my own desk.

The backgrounds were created on Kraft CS using a Pearlized Distress Mist/Acrylic Resist technique with encaustic wax finish.

I don't usually show personal photos here, but today I am.  The 3 sides of the frame have photos of  Marissa 15, Alex 13 Oct. 13 (Friday the 13th baby)

and Mason 11 1/2.  (can't forget the 1/2 at that age ya know)

Each front panel (Kraft CS) and back panels (heavy weight cereal box cardboard) were cut to 3 1/2" x 5" and then I measured across the top and marked the middle at 1 3/4" and then down each side 2" and cut at diagonals to create the tag shape.

Wanna see my new toy?  It all started when I bought a Collage Discovery Workshop book by Claudine Hellmuth.  She uses so many neat mediums on her creations.  One thing I experimented with on the frames above is encaustic wax.  After finishing my projects by heating a metal painters palette with my heat gun and melting crayons on it before smearing it on my project I knew I needed a quilters iron.  Good thing Hobby Lobby has a 40% off coupon this week!  The iron comes with a standard tip, but you can purchase additional sizes.  It has variable heat settings and gets nice and hot!  Off to experiment with it some more.

 

FS81 Girl & Bird

Today's Featured Stamper on Splitcoast is Patricia aka kokirose.  I love her style and it took me a while to decide what to case first.  I finally decided on her Dreams card seen HERE

I kept the same layout and color scheme.  Changes include:  Different Fiskars Border Punch, Stamped Frame instead of metal one, stamped tole flowers in place of silk flowers, acrylic resist background instead of designer paper, different stamps and added an embossed/die cut bar to the ribbon strip.  My prima's really match, I just couldn't get the photo to show that without losing other details.

All stamps available from Innovative Stamp Creations  The background is called Floral Batik.  The tole flowers and frame are from a soon to be released set called Harlequin Flowers 2.  The girl & bird is vintage clip art from a Niagara Starch advertisement.  The batik background was stamped in brown acrylic paint on rose red cardstock.  I saturated the layer with a mini mister with Red Brick Distress ink/perfect pearls red/water.  The frame is stamped on Kraft with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink.  A 1/38" circle punch was used on the clip art and then I topped it with a clear page pebble.  The tole flowers are from the harlequin flowers 2 set and were stamped using Adirondack pigment in Cranberry and sponged with Distress Vintage Photo.  The smaller tole flowers were die cut with Spellbinders shapeabilities Daisy Heads set (smallest flower) and the bar is also from Spellbinders and is from the Charms & Rod set.

Now for the card: Images are all available from Rubbernecker Stamp Co. I used a Pearlized Distress mist to create the acrylic resist. Colors include, Tea Dye ink/blush perfect pearls, Red Brick ink/red perfect pearls & Scattered Straw ink/bronze perfect pearls. After stamping the angel boy, I lightly highlighted him with copic markers and some Sakura Stardust gel pen. The wings are Tim Holtz grungeboard that was painted with Frayed Burlap crackle paint. They were sponged with tea dye distress ink and black soot. Clock faces, brads and the dymo label were added to finish it off. Hope you like it as much as I do!

My 2nd card is for CC180, the color challenge at Splitcoast today. Yummy colors - Blush, Ruby, Cocoa. I only used Blush and Cocoa CS. The red layer is actually cocoa CS that was embossed with the baroque background (a fave of mine) using Tattered Rose Distress EP. The red tone comes from the Pearlized Shimmer Distress mist made by combining a dropper full of Fired Brick Distress Reinker, a little Red Perfect Pearls and water. The Blush layer was inked with Tattered Rose Distress ink, rock n rolled in Fired Brick, misted with water and stamped. I sponged the edges with Walnut Stain distress ink and also stamped the sentiment with it. The photo corners are from Spellbinders Hdw. & Hinges Shapeabilities set.

Festive Shimmer Resist

This is for FS78 over at Splitcoast today, Shellapoo!  Not only is Michelle a talented and kind hearted stamper, she leaves comments and visits blogs regularly too.  Read her story over in the FS thread and you will be touched by her too. 

I chose to case her Trust card. 

Changes include: Stamps, Colors, tag instead of rectangle layer, fibers, different resist and an additional layer to the base. 

I started out by stamping the leaves on Vanilla CS with Gesso and letting them dry.  Then, using a Tim Holtz technique, spritzed with a mixture of distress ink/perfect pearls and water.  It resists the gesso.  Well, I usually do this with acrylic paint daubers and the paint doesn't stay such a stark white as the gesso did.  I set it aside and went on with other things.  Just before bed, I took another look at it and decided to brayer over it with a Kaleidacolor autumn leaves pad.  Yeah, it worked!  I chose not to brayer the tag, just sponged the edges with Fired brick Distress ink.  The edges of the main layer were scraped with a toothbrush and Versafine Vintage Sepia.  Fibers are Basic Grey.  All supplies available from Rubbernecker Stamp Co.
